Establish a palette
Establishing a color palette is the first thing you need to do when crafting your Halloween tablescape! For me, it’s shades of black, minimal pops of white and rustic elements to break it up, like you see here with the moss.
Define your "wow" moment
A wow moment… every great scene, whether it be your entry way or a tablescape, has a MOMENT! My tablescape has a lot of wow factor in and of itself, but I've secondarly set it off by the lanterns and wall hands to tell a complete story.
layers on layers
When designing your Halloween tablescpae, layers are key! Start with a base, which in this case is the table runner. I then layered the black twig garland, followed by cascading objects randomly down the center of the table, and finished off with candles! As you can see, pumpkins are not the only Halloween themed item you can add to your table - think ravens, black crows, bats, skulls, snakes, spiders, etc.
place settings
I love to be playful and untraditional with my place settings! For example, here, I’m showing both a paper dinner napkin to add pattern play, and a gauzy, cloth napkin to add softness.
design outside the box
When styling, especially a tablescape, don’t feel like you need to be confined to just the table. You can see here that I have a side table placed closely to the main table, and used the walls in my dining room for another layer of frightful decor!
cuisine to match
Don’t forget about using the cuisine toward your theme! Play up serving ware, and plan your menu around food that helps tell the story!
